It occurs to me, as I try to increase my visibility on social media, that I could do the same on the blog. Let’s see how it goes.
Last night I read issue number 16 of Western Gunfighters, from 1973. The comic features Kid Colt, the Black Rider, and Kid Apache. This volume of Western Gunfighters reprints Atlas and Marvel western stories, but the first seven issues did contain new material.
These reprint books were a great way for publishers to get books on the stands using stories they had in their inventory. I cannot speak to how popular westerns were in the early seventies, but I enjoyed this issue 53 years later. The cover story, “Shoot-Out in Silver City,” which does not feature a shoot-out, was the best of the bunch. The Apache Kid story was also entertaining for a six-pager about corruption and vengeance.
